Which vaccines contain human protein and DNA?

Is this safe?

A recent CBS News Investigates article interviews a former senior scientist at a pharmaceutical firm who discusses the increase in autism incidences corresponding with the introduction of human DNA to MMR vaccine, and suggests the two could be linked. Ratajczak also says an additional increased spike in autism occurred in 1995 when chicken pox vaccine was grown in human fetal tissue. Read more here.

This article from The National Network for Immunization Information, while incomplete regarding the sources of human protein/DNA and the vaccines in which they are found, focuses on explaining why some vaccines are grown in cell cultures that were originally obtained from human fetuses.

The FDA has concerns about the safety of medical products derived from human blood and the risk of viral and prion disease transmission. This concern is echoed on page 4 of the package insert for ProQuad (MMR/Chicken Pox).

From the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, about half of all people with hemophilia became infected with HIV after using contaminated blood products. According to The National Hemophilia Foundation, Despite the implementation of safety advances, the risk remains for known and unknown potential infectious agents and pathogens to threaten the blood supply and blood products.

After widespread use, some vaccines were found to have been contaminated with animal virus DNA that was not detected pre or post-licensure.

The long-term risks to human health of injecting infants, children and adults with human protein/DNA have never been studied.


Where did the human protein and DNA come from?


Fetal Cell Lines


The MRC-5 cell line was developed in September 1966 from lung tissue taken from a 14 week fetus aborted for psychiatric reasons from a 27 year old physically healthy woman. MRC-5 is a known source of human DNA in vaccines.

The WI-38 human diploid cell line was derived by L. Hayflick from the lung tissue of a 3-month old aborted human female fetus.

The rubella vaccine currently used in the U.S. and in most countries was developed after an American researcher at the Wistar Institute cultured rubella virus from a fetus aborted because the mother was infected with rubella. This vaccine is called RA 27/3 because the rubella virus was isolated from the 27th aborted fetus sent to the Wistar Institute in the 1964 rubella outbreak. Genetically engineered human albumin derived from yeast


Currently, only the MMR vaccine contains genetically engineered human protein, which is produced under the brand name Recombumin and referred to as "recombinant human albumin" in the package insert.


Human albumin derived from human blood
